Hummingbird Notting Hill’s Brand New Swag
On Wednesday 7th February Hummingbird Bakery's Notting Hill branch opened it's doors once more but this time it had more than its mouth-watering cakes to show off! Having been closed for extensive refurbishment for more than a month, the bakery has been lovingly refitted to the highest possible standards including gorgeous stripped back bare walls.
While customers visiting the newly refurbished branch will be familiar with the delicious bakes and welcoming ambience, most other aspects of their experience will have changed. From the outside of the bakery, passers by will be greeted with a refreshed frontage featuring new awnings, an illuminated pink Hummingbird Bakery sign and glowing window surrounds, drawing attention to the tempting cakes available in store.
The interior will be brought up to the minute with contemporary fittings, dark wood flooring, spot lighting to highlight the array of products and an LED screen displaying the bakery’s showreel of bespoke cake creations. Counters and the till have been relocated to make the flow of customers smoother and improve disabled access, creating a more relaxed environment for all visitors. Important updates have also been made to kitchen areas, with additional dry and chilled storage capacity to enable the branch to better meet with the demand for fresh baking. At weekends the bakery will also be serving its fresh-from-the-oven cupcakes to market shoppers from a new street food-style popup stall.
Tarek Malouf, Managing Director at The Hummingbird Bakery, said: “Our Portobello Road branch holds particular significance to me as it is where The Hummingbird Bakery story began. When the company first started out I worked at the branch doing everything from baking and cake decorating to serving customers. The branch has lasted well, given the millions of customers from all over the world who’ve passed through it. Now, and with a good deal of nostalgia, it is time to give it a well deserved makeover.”
The Hummingbird Bakery, London’s home of authentic American-style cakes and desserts, opened its first branch in Notting Hill in 2004. It was the company’s only premises for more than three years. At its time of launch, few customers had heard of cupcakes let alone tried one. The Hummingbird Bakery Notting Hill has since become recognised as instrumental in the remarkable rise of cupcakes within London and the UK.
