HOT Britz Fashion Feature: Jimmy ‘The Gent’
The Gent
Jimmy Akingbola has been running the wards in Holby City as the cocky and confident General Surgical Registrar otherwise known as ‘The Malick’ since January 2011. Yet for us he was the embodiment of the consummate Gentleman. We grabbed a Hotminute between shooting to get know Jimmy better.
HM: This has been bugging us, what’s with Malik rolling his scrub sleeves up all the time??
(Laughs out Loud) I get asked this alot! Basically when I joined Holby City and heard Amanda Mealing (Connie Beauchamp) was leaving the show. I decided I would emulate her style of rolling the sleeves of her scrubs up. As an actor I always want to make a statement with each character I create. With Malick he has his own style and sense of doing things. For me it represents his desire to be a Consultant; if she could walk around like that then so can THE MALICK!
HM: Malik is very self confident, some call it cocky, we call it swag, can the same be said of Jimmy?
Hahaha! I am quietly confident, not cocky and yeah I have a bit of swag of course lol! When I got photographed at the 2011 NTA Awards wearing an Ozwald Boateng suit and was in the papers and magazines I got told I had some serious swag. Although I’m not sure if that was because I attended the awards with two women on each arm, one of them being Olga Fedori from Holby City, but I will take the compliment!
HM: We can only imagine the schedule you keep with Holby, so how do you fit Triforce in and what’s Triforce about?
Holby is a full time acting job from 7am to 7pm and 5 times a week. I love it but it is hard work. So yes, managing my business TriForce Promotions and managing my social life at the same time is challenging, so much so I’m thinking of getting a PA!
I co-founded TriForce Promotions with my good friend, actor Fraser Ayres. It’s a production company that delivers events for those working in the entertainment/ acting industry as well as producing theatre productions. TriForce have gone from humble beginnings to becoming the leading Networking organisation of the entertainment industry, providing bespoke services centered around a core theme of inclusivity, NOT exclusivity, facilitating a member base spanning far and wide. Our events be they social, corporate or theatrical, have become renowned for their excellent atmosphere and for always being unique and striking - be it a sitcom reading attended by 500 people, our competitions with the BBC offering commissions to writers from varied backgrounds that would not usually have the opportunity, or our social events attended regularly by the top industry movers. We strive to produce an environment where everyone feels comfortable to mingle, and speak with everyone else, and that talent can have direct contact with those in the industry in a position to move the individual and their project forward. HM: You’re rocking some slick suiting in our shoot, but what’s your personal style all about?
I loved the suit I had in the HM shoot yet I was a bit jealous of Chucky Venn’s look! My style is all about wearing what you love that makes you feel confident and happy. You may see me in suits, or blazers and jeans with trainers. Yet I like the casual and rough and ready look too, just depends on how I’m feeling. Trust me if you see me at 6am when I’m off to work you would not recognise me... especially in the winter I’m wrapped up hard!
HM: What one possession makes every minute of your day HOT?
Erm....... My heart and mind?! Oh and my Phone!
