Whatever Happened To……Brownstone?
If You Love Me stormed the charts in 1993 paving the way for Brownstone’s mainstream success. Although at this point the scene was flooded with numerous other female quartets, Brownstone brought an amazing dynamic to the scene with amazing vocals by group members Nicole ‘Nicci’ Gilbert, Charmayne ‘Maxee’ Maxwell and Monica ‘Mimi’ Doby. ‘If You Love Me’ reached the top ten taking their debut album ‘From the Bottom Up’ to platinum status.
After extensive touring a rift developed in the camp resulting in Monica’s departure from the trio. Kina Cosper joined the group for their second album ‘Still Climbing’ and maintained the group’s balance. The album saw some success with the single ‘5 Miles to Empty’ reaching No.6 in the RnB charts; however the album’s success fell short of their first effort and the group faded into the history books.
