Hotminute gets the hot scoop on Gumball 3000 from legendary Hip Hop icon Bun B!

This event nearly slipped the Hotminute radar but at the last hot second we got the inside scoop from legendary Hip Hop icon Bun B. He flew into town specially to participate in this year’s rally. Gumball 3000 was created in 1999, when founder Maximillion Cooper invited 50 friends to take part in a 3000 mile drive and party around Europe. The vision was to create a lifestyle brand that could combine elements of the music, film, fashion and sports industries.
It’s pretty much a travel by day and party by night affair, while pit stopping in some of Europe’s coolest destinations. The Gumball tour brings its own unique brand of entertainment to each city, hosting incredible super-car and eco car displays, free music concerts and VIP parties with a line up of stars and cars that is unsurpassed!
On Thursday 26th May over 100 amazing vehicles set off from London on a 3000 mile journey across 10 countries all the way to Istanbul. Closing roads and city centres (think the ‘Tour de France’ with cars). From London the route incorporates Paris, Barcelona, Monte Carlo (attending the Monaco F1 race), Milan, Venice, Zagreb, Belgrade and Sofia before crossing the finish line in Istanbul on Wednesday June 1st.
Between 9am and 12am Covent Garden was the centre court for some of the world’s most revered cars, if the designer badges were not enough to make you break into a hot sweat the £1000’s worth of modifications would make you blink and look twice. The incredible car line-up featured Pagani Zonda’s, Bugatti Veyron’s, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Aston Martins, Jaguars and Porsches to name a few.
This years participants flew into London to get the rally started. As I fluttered through the guest list I couldn’t help but think of the 1970’s movies ‘Canon Ball Run’ with Burt Reynolds, needless to say he wasn’t on this year’s tour! Competitors included Hip Hop legends Eve, UGK’s Bun B, Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs, Boyzone’s Shane Lynch and French footballer Djibril Cissé, NFL superstar Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions’ Rookie of the Year Ndamukong Suh and Indianapolis Colts’ linebacker Cody Glenn. As Winter X-Games Gold medallist Jon Olsson, and five time Winter Olympic champion Bode Miller and the cast from the notorious Dirty Sanchez and The Dudesons who were filming for an MTV ‘Gumball Special’. It was certain that participants and Gumball fans were definitely in for a treat!
This event was as fully modified as the cars featured. With an exclusive launch party held at London’s Playboy Mansion where participants made a pit stop to sign in and partied till the early hours of the morning ahead of the event.
